CLEAN WATER IS ESSENTIAL FOR A THRIVING COMMUNITY

According to WaterAid, 1.1 million Liberians lack access to safe water which causes over 700 deaths per year in children under 5 years of age.  It’s 14-year civil war destroyed the country’s hydroelectric plant along with most of its infrastructure. Government funding to provide reliable clean water is scarce. Purchasing safe water is financially out of reach for most families.

Mission to Liberia has provided clean water to thousands of Liberian citizens by digging wells in the most remote villages.  These wells are dug by local labor, providing not only clean water, but an economic benefit by providing paid employment. Without clean water, diseases are rampant, education becomes a low priority and it has a disastrous economic result.  Many of our donors want to earmark their monetary donation for wells, in fact, our most recent generous donors made possible digging wells at two (2) orphanages.

CHALLENGES

Liberia faces significant development challenges because the 14 years of civil war destroyed its economy, demolished physical infrastructure, and damaged agricultural productivity. This situation was further exacerbated by the 2014–2015 Ebola epidemic during which 10,678 were infected and 4,810 succumbed to the disease (CDC 2016).

Nutrition, food insecurity and undernutrition remain critical challenges in Liberia.

Mission to Liberia has provided food & clean-water to schools and orphanages, as well as assisted in starting a working agricultural area. We need your help so we can assist more communities in need.

Help Our Cause

According to USAID, 32% of children under the age of 5 suffer from chronic malnutrition, and 15% are underweight. Also, 35% of mortality in under 5 year old children is related to malnutrition.

These statistics are alarming.  Mission to Liberia has provided nutrient dense food (usually rice) to schools, orphanages and other community organizations.  Many of our donors have requested earmarking their monetary donation towards the purchase of rice and other food products.  Send us a note letting us know if you would like your donation to go to a specific cause.
