Mission to Liberia
Old shoes. Very old shoes. These took me on foot, away from the gunfire, far from the shelling of embattled Liberia, my homeland. Joseph Deranamie recounts his days fleeing as a refugee.
Mission To Liberia
Mission To Liberia is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving the health care needs of fellow Liberians who did not escape the devastation that decades of civil war left behind.
The completed first floor of the outreach center is testament to what planning, hard work and dedication can produce. It started with a walk in old shoes and blossomed with a shipment of two forty foot containers of shoes, clothing, "joka flee" (Liberian English for "used clothing") and other items for the poorest of the poor. It continues with a permanent outreach and education center focusing on direct aid and education in public health and hygiene. The outreach and education center is one aspect of a two-pronged approach Mission To Liberia is taking in its assistance to Liberia.
Our Objectives
- Provide direct relief in the form of first aid kits, mosquito netting, food supplements and over the counter medicines.
- Operate an outreach center to be used for:
- Health/Hygiene education
- Distribution center for aid
- A base for mobile units
- To assist the University of Liberia's schools of Pharmacy and General Medicine with acquiring the educational materials needed including text books, computers, laboratory equipment.
Our Progress to date
- Sent two 40' containers to Liberia laden with relief goods and construction materials. Performed distribution to populace.
- Finished construction of first floor of outreach center - placing over 2,500 square feet under roof.
